The Crescentia are nomads, their entire society trekking the wastelands on enormous beasts of burden. The mightiest of these beasts are Eclipse Mammoths, large enough to carry sections of an entire village across the blasted Middle East. They have no borders, as such, but their wanderings stretch between the ancient Pyramids, to Babylon, to their capitol, the Pale Womb. Their leader is the Khan, a great warrior, and they have religious leaders in the Prophets.
The Crescentia dress in colorful robes, their lower faces always covered by a breathing mask when in the open. In times of battle, they put on large shoulder pads, engraved with blessins from the Prophets. Each village is presided over by a Maraij, who is both a military and civic leader. Seven Maraij from the largest villages form a council that dominates affairs of Crescentia as a whole. This council is presided over by the Khan, but over the years, his role has diminished, so that he is sometimes little more than a figurehead, though greatly respected nonetheless. Respect and honor are two of the most important values in Crescentian society, and disrespect is almost certainly met with death. |
