The Art of Kinetics focuses on the manipulation of material objects, and is a favored Art for Brotherhood warriors. These powers are often used in combat, for offensive or defensive purposes.

  • STRIKE

    Area of Effect: 1 target
    Range: 15 meters
    Duration: Instant
    Damage: 1d6
    A burst of damaging energy is unleashed from the caster's palm, launching outward in a straight line toward the enemy. (In game terms, no roll is required to hit, as long as the caster does not Fumble. The defender may still have a chance to Dodge, however.)

    Each added magnitude causes one of the following effects:

  • Increase range by 30 m per extra magnitude.
  • Increase damage by +2 per extra magnitude.
  • Hit one additional target within the range.
  • By adding two magnitudes, the caster can choose one of the following additional effects:

  • The Strike ignites the air that it passes, creating the same effect as an incinerator (flame-thrower).
  • The Strike can be directed at anyone within the range; the target does not have to be within line of sight, but his presence and approximate location must be known. (i.e., what room he is in will be enough.)

  • SHIELD

    Area of Effect: 1 square meter
    Range: 15 meters
    Duration: Concentration, or 1 minute (static)
    This spell produces a flat, blue-shimmering force-field with an Armor Value of 4. Since the force-field glows, it will almost always betray the caster's position, if he is hiding. A moble Shield may be moved freely as long as the caster concentrates (i.e., it may be used to Parry), but once the concentration is lost -- for example, if the caster is wounded -- the Shield disappears. A static shield is immobile, as durable as a normal wooden door, and must be broken by brute force.

    Each added magnitude causes one of the following effects:

  • Increase the area of effect to MG x MG. (A Shield of the fifth magnitude will be 5 x 5 meters in size.)
  • Add a third dimension. (A second-magnitude Shield could create a cube 1 x 1 x 1 meters in size.)
  • Increase the Shield's Armor Value by 2 per extra magnitude.
  • Increate the duration (for a static Shield) by 5 minutes per extra magnitude.
  • Increase the duration of a mobile Shield to 1 minute. (The caster doesn't have to concentrate; additional magnitudes spent for this purpose increase the direction by 5 minutes each.)

  • PHANTASM

    Area of Effect: Personal
    Range: Personal
    Duration: 10 minutes
    The caster creates an optical illusion that allows him to alter his appearance to resemble that of another humanoid being. The caster's artistic skills and memory determine exactly how close the Phantasm comes to reality. No physical abilities are changed by the spell.

    Each added magnitude causes both of the following effects:

  • Extend the duration by one hour.
  • Extra magnitudes put into the spell increase the difficulty of seeing through the illusion by magical means.
  • By spending two extra magnitudes, the following effect is gained:

  • The Area of Effect is changed to "1 person", and the Range is changed to "Touch" -- meaning that the Phantasm can be cast on someone else.

  • TELEPORT

    Area of Effect: 1 kg (2 lbs.)
    Range: Touch
    Duration: Instant
    Moves the touched object from one place to another, even through walls if necessary. Enough magnitudes must be put into the spell to move the entire object -- This spell cannot be used to selectively teleport away sections of an object or creature, nor can it teleport any target into a solid object. The destination can be any known location within one kilometer.

    Each added magnitude can cause one of the following effects:

  • Area of Effect increases by 5 kilograms (11 lbs.).
  • Range increases by 10 meters. (Caster does not have to touch the object.)
  • Range of teleportation is increased by 10 kilometers.

  • LEVITATE

    Area of Effect: Personal
    Range: Personal
    Duration: Concentration
    This spell causes the caster to levitate through the air at a rate of one meter per action (approximately 2 seconds).

    Each added magnitude can cause one of the following effects:

  • Duration is increased to 1 minute without Concentration. Every additional magnitude beyond this will increase the duration by 5 minutes.
  • The caster will move forward with a speed of 15 meters per action. Extra magnitudes will increase this speed by 15 meters per action.
  • Range is changed to Touch (allowing this to be cast on someone else). Every extra magnitude on top of this will increase range by 15 meters.
  • Area of Effect is increased by one victim/recipient. (This has to be combined with a Range increase at least to "Touch" to work.)

  • EXPLOSION

    Area of Effect: approximately 1.5 meters diameter
    Range: 15 meters
    Duration: Instant
    Damage: 1d4
    With this power, the caster shapes the air into a swirling ball of gases, which then is ignited and thrown at an enemy from the caster's palm, exploding on impact. (Line of sight is required to the target.)

    Each added magnitude causes one of the following effects:

  • The shrapnel range is increased by 1.5 meters.
  • Damage is increased by +1.
  • Range is increased by 30 m
