 Based on the sky island of Caroban, the College Esoterica is a center for organized magical study on Sinai, dividing the arts of Sinai magic into various "spheres" in which wizards specialize. To be a spellcaster without sanction by the College Esoterica on Sinai is to invite trouble, as the College jealously guards its position as the keeper of the secrets of the mystical arts. The College Esoterica is very closely associated with the Mages' Guild, and all graduates of the College are expected to pay off their tuition and to pay dues for Guild membership. Spellcasters on Sinai who are not accredited by the College Esoterica and members of the Mages' Guild are considered to be "hedge wizards" -- an offense that can be punishable by death.
